The tour was part of Building Plymouth’s ‘Build Your Future in Construction’ event which highlights the potential career opportunities available within the construction industry.
The young people were kitted out with hard hats, safety boots and hi-vis vests and we’re given a tour by Tim Martin, Technical Site Manager from Tilia Homes who talked about the different trades and craftmanship required on a building site. Following the site visit, the students were the offered guidance with their CVs, were given an overview of the different pathways into a career in construction and advised about current construction apprenticeships, training and job opportunities.

David McManus, Construction Director for Tilia Homes Western comments; “We were absolutely delighted to welcome young Plymouth residents onsite and show them the endless opportunities a career in construction can bring. Over the next five years, it is expected that the construction industry will need around 10,000 jobs to fill the current skills gap in Plymouth, so it was great to talk about how the sector has changed and the variety of roles available*. I hope we’ve been able to inspire some young minds and help them get their foot on the recruitment ladder.”
