Pupils enjoy class in construction at local Templecombe housing development

Pupils from Abbas & Templecombe CE Primary School took a trip to Tilia Homes Western’s Knights Meadow development, on Slades Hill, recently get a lesson in construction health and safety and a special tour of the new homes being built

As well as getting a special tour from Knights Meadow’s site manager, the children had the chance to sit on a digger and stand inside houses at different build stages, while asking questions and wearing the right PPE, making them a true part of the Tilia Homes team for the day.

Emma Cotterill, Sales and Marketing Director for Tilia Homes Western, comments: “Visits to our developments are such an important and special part of our community engagement programme as it gives us the opportunity to support and give back to the residents and services in the areas we build, as well as proactively explaining the importance of health and safety to children who are passing any of our developments.

Tilia Homes Western has made significant contributions toward Templecombe infrastructure and facilities, including more than £100,000 toward youth and offsite play areas, £450,000 towards pre-school and primary education, as well as almost £15,000 toward public transport.

The homebuilder also took the opportunity recently to visit pupils at the school to deliver a special health and safety assembly. Packed with interesting building statistics and question time, the session taught the children the different hazards on site, to safety signs and protective clothing. They also learned about the important role maths, English and science played in the managers’ day-to-day roles.

Emma adds: “As a homebuilder that’s passionate about encouraging the next generation of talent into the property and construction industry and seeing the children so engaged and excited to ask our team questions, I’ve no doubt we’ve a lot of budding architects, engineers and site managers in the making!”

Knights Meadow, which was officially opened by Councillor Robin Cave last month, will feature a range of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes when complete. The development is in a peaceful, residential area, just minutes away from the beautiful town of Templecombe, in Somerset. Surrounded by open green spaces, with a good selection of schools and superb transport links, this development promises to be popular with homebuyers.
