Tilia Homes celebrates Potton’s heritage with new public sculpture installation
People living in and around Potton can now enjoy a new public artwork that celebrates the town’s rural roots.
Tilia Homes, part of the untypical Group, has unveiled a collection of handcrafted sculptures at its former Tall Trees development in Potton. Created by local artist Paul Pipworth, the pieces have been designed to reflect Bedfordshire’s farming heritage and give residents, visitors and families something meaningful to discover close to home.
At the centre of the installation is a life-sized Shire horse, inspired by Paul’s own family history. Generations of his family worked on Bedfordshire farmland, including his father, who was a horseman.
Paul said: “The horse holds something very special in my heart. My dear old dad was a ‘hossman’, working alongside horses in the fields with his father before him.
“Shire horses are the gentlest of animals, known for both their strength and beauty. They played a vital role in rural life before tractors changed farming forever.”
The Shire horse sculpture includes carefully etched wording that reflects the strength, care and hard work that shaped farming life for many generations.
Alongside the horse are engraved stone apples, each with links to local culture and history, including the well-known Bedfordshire Clanger. Together, the sculptures create a small heritage trail for residents and visitors to explore at their own pace.
The installation gives the Tall Trees community a lasting local landmark and is part of Tilia Homes’ wider approach to creating places that feel connected to their surroundings.
Jon Cook, Regional Managing Director at untypical’s Eastern region, said: “Buying a home is about more than the house itself. It’s also about feeling part of a place.
“We’re proud to unveil these sculptures and grateful for the care, passion and craftsmanship Paul has brought to the project.
“Potton has a rich history, and this installation helps bring some of those stories to life in a way that residents, visitors and future generations can enjoy.”
The sculptures are open for public viewing at the Tall Trees development in Potton, within walking distance of Market Square.
