Over the last few weeks, Kier Living has held a Toy Drive at its Tempsford head office, where colleagues from across the business have donated gifts worth thousands of pounds and more than £700 in cash donations made to Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT).
The toys and cash were delivered to Ward C2, the Children’s Oncology and Haematology Department, which serves East Anglia. The ward has 17 beds where children up to the age of 16 are treated for cancer and blood diseases including leukaemia and sickle cell anaemia.
Every child who comes to the department during the festive period will receive one of the gifts and any child who has to stay at Ward C2 over Christmas will be presented with a pillowcase full of presents, courtesy of Father Christmas.
Nick Moore, managing director of developer Kier Living said: “I never cease to be amazed by how generous our colleagues and suppliers are and this year they have really gone the extra mile, donating a huge number of toys for children on Ward C2 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.”
“It is impossible not to be inspired by the courage of these young people or to be impressed by the nurses, doctors and experts who care for them.”
Liz Brinsdon, strategic partnerships lead for ACT said: “Being in hospital can be challenging for young patients, even more so at this time of year. We’re so grateful to staff and suppliers of Kier Living Eastern for bringing a smile to children’s faces at Addenbrooke’s this Christmas.”
ACT is still raising funds for a nursery nurse to support children with cancer as part of its Children’s Appeal. Visit www.act4addenbrookes.org.uk/children for more information.
The subcontractors who donated to the Toy Drive were: Toulson Carpentry Ltd, AD Bly Construction, Howard Plastering Ltd, Flahive Brickwork Ltd, Allgood Services Ltd, Extreme Scaffolding Services Ltd, Elite Décor, Van Elle Total Foundation Solutions and Daly Group Ltd.
