Kier Living’s Verdant Rise development at Ashton Green is a collection of 307 family properties, including 92 affordable new homes in Leicester. Around a third of the 37-acre site is being retained as green open space including formal amenity areas, protected wildlife corridors and sustainable drainage solutions. Kier Living will also be contributing over £1.7m towards new education provision.
Verdant Rise has been thoughtfully designed to incorporate individual character areas inspired by Leicester’s heritage including the Victorian villa, Edwardian terrace and village street. Kier Living’s vision for the development is to provide residents with a distinctive, safe, green, and well-connected place that will become a thriving and prosperous mixed community with a strong heart and distinctive identity within the city.
The new homes include a range of high-quality two to five-bedroomed properties, designed to meet the environmental standards of Ashton Green Site Wide Carbon Reduction Strategy. Construction of the first properties is expected to begin by mid-spring with the homes released for sale from Summer 2021.
Verdant Rise offers a semi-rural location situated on the northern edge of Leicester. The city itself is just four miles away and offers a wide range of amenities including Leicester’s two primary shopping centres High Cross Leicester and Haymarket Shopping Centre.
The site is well placed to take advantage of the A46 with direct access onto the M1 motorway. Leicester railway station is around 4.5 miles away providing regular train services to Birmingham New Street in approximately 45 minutes, Sheffield in around one hour and London St Pancras International in just over 1 hour 20 minutes.
Darren Humphreys, regional director for Kier Living Central, comments: “We are delighted to have been selected to deliver the second phase of development at Ashton Green. This is a flagship development for the region, and we look forward to contributing to this exciting new community by delivering high quality, sustainable homes and community facilities for the local area.”
Leicester City Council is the principal landowner and promoter of the Ashton Green development.
City Mayor Peter Soulsby says: “Ashton Green is an essential part of the city’s commitment to build the 30,000 new homes needed in Leicester over the next ten to fifteen years, and it will make a huge contribution to local economic growth. I am very proud that this hugely ambitious project has reached another major milestone with work now beginning on a new phase of work to build over 300 new homes and we are excited to have Kier Living on board.”
