Tilia Homes acquires new site in Crewkerne

Tilia Homes has acquired a new site in the historic Somerset town of Crewkerne as it continues to contribute to housing delivery across the county.

Maple Grove is a 38-acre site located on the southern fringe of the town and has outline planning permission in place for up to 150 new homes, together with associated infrastructure works and public open space. The existing outline planning permission for the site comprises of 65% open market and 35% affordable properties, of which there will be a split of social rented and shared ownership homes. The scheme will be accessed from the west of the site with the creation of a new junction.

The site, which is former agricultural land, occupies a prime position on Lang Road, which connects to the B3165 via Crewkerne town centre. The A30 and A356 also pass through the town, which both provide routes to Exeter and London. Crewkerne Railway Station, which is approximately one mile from the development, also offers direct rail links to London Waterloo and Exeter St David’s.

Crewkerne itself is a thriving town with a good range of leisure and shopping facilities and amenities on its bustling high street, including supermarkets, well-known stores and independent boutiques, as well as a swimming pool and gym, a hospital, two primary schools, a middle school, and Wadham secondary school and sixth form.

Alan Hindley, Land Director at Tilia Homes Western, comments: “We’re delighted to have acquired a premium site in such an enviable location with good local amenities, excellent transport links and which will provide a significant future investment in the town.

“We look forward to working with South Somerset District Council to deliver a collection of high-quality homes and public open space which will complement our existing portfolio of successful developments in Somerset and provides much-needed homes for local people.”

Tilia Homes is currently building new homes at Bunford Heights in Yeovil, Snowdon Grange in Chard and Knights Meadow in Templecombe.
