Tilia Homes Donates Children’s Books to pupils of St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Darwen
Housebuilder Tilia Homes has donated a collection of children’s books to St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Darwen, helping to support the school’s library update, and encouraging a love of reading among pupils.
The donation forms part of wider celebrations around World Book Day and the National Year of Reading 2026, which aims to encourage children and families across the UK to discover the enjoyment and lifelong benefits of reading.
The new books will become part of the school’s newly updated library and include a range of much-loved titles suitable for younger readers and older pupils alike. Among the collection are popular children’s stories such as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, titles from Julia Donaldson including The Gruffalo and The Detective Dog, alongside collections from Roald Dahl, Mr Men and Little Miss, and a number of modern children’s series including Planet Omar and Anisha Accidental Detective.
The donation aims to give pupils more opportunities to explore different stories, cultures and characters while helping them build confidence and enjoyment in reading both inside and outside the classroom.
The books were officially presented to the school on Thursday 5th March, where pupils celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book characters.
Victoria Barlow, Sales Manager at Tilia Homes Northern, said: "It’s fantastic to be able to support St Peter’s Primary School as they refresh their library and continue encouraging pupils to discover the joy of reading. Schools play such an important role at the heart of their communities, so being able to contribute something that pupils can enjoy and learn from feels really rewarding. During the National Year of Reading, we’re proud to support initiatives that help young people develop their confidence and creativity through books."
Mrs Fox, English Subject Leader at St Peter’s C of E Primary School, added: "At St Peter’s Primary School, we are incredibly grateful to Tilla Homes for their very generous donation of books. These will become a valued part of our newly renovated school library and will play an important role in promoting a love of reading across our school community. Their support will truly help us inspire and nurture a passion for reading in all our pupils."
The initiative forms part of Tilia Homes’ ongoing commitment to supporting communities close to its developments. Tilia Homes is currently delivering the final phase of homes at Taylors Green on Pole Lane in Darwen.
The final 16 homes at the development will be released for sale this summer and will include a mix of three-bedroom terraced homes with parking, and four-bedroom detached homes featuring traditional two-storey layouts with garages and private parking.
