By using Help to Buy, Catherine, an
executive assistant, and Johnathan, a machine engineer, were able to move from their
rented property in Aylesbury into a four bedroom The Westwood on Tilia Homes’
Steeple View development.
Catherine explains: “Through Help to
Buy we received an equity loan from the Government of 20% of the price of the
property which meant we only needed a five per cent deposit and 75 per cent
mortgage. This had a significant impact on what we could afford. We really
wanted the low maintenance of a new-build and had done a lot of research into
what was available locally.
“Steeple View offered the best of
both worlds – the opportunity to live in a peaceful rural village but still
offering easy access to Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and Bicester. We were actually
one of the first to buy on the development and selected a lovely plot at the
front of the site overlooking green open space.
“The house itself has a great layout,
with the main bedroom and ensuite occupying the whole of the top floor, and
we’ve converted one of the bedrooms into a home office so that I can work from
home. It really did tick all the boxes for us and means we have plenty of space
to grow. Our family staffy Henley is now a regular visitor and loves the back
garden!”
The Help to Buy scheme is a government
initiative designed to support with deposit funds for both first and existing
homebuyers. Jonathan continues: “The whole process was really straightforward and
the Tilia team kept us well informed throughout. As first time buyers, we definitely
had a lot of questions, but everyone was really helpful and responsive.”
Catherine adds: “It has made a huge
impact on our lives being here, we are a lot less stressed and have fully
embraced the enjoyment of making our house a home!”
The Government’s Help to Buy scheme
will come to an end in March 2023, meaning those who want to take advantage
will need to have secured a new build home in 2022. Find out more.
