Planning secured for new Didcot homes

Housebuilder Tilia Homes, part of the untypical group, has secured planning permission for a new development in Didcot that will bring 86 new homes to the town, including 40% affordable housing.

Work on the development, to be known as Foal’s Meadow, is expected to start imminently. It will provide a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes, and includes a block of affordable apartments, together with a play area. A cycleway will also be developed to link with neighbouring cycle paths.

As well as bringing social and economic benefits to the region, Tilia Homes will contribute £2.5million to support leisure, education, healthcare, public transport and community facilities.

Gareth Jacob, Regional Managing Director for untypical Eastern, said: “We’re excited to begin work imminently following our land purchase in 2023. This marks an important step in delivering high-quality, much-needed homes for Didcot.

“We recognise the ongoing demand for housing in the area, and we’re committed to creating a development that truly reflects local needs. With Didcot’s strong identity and excellent links to Oxford, Wantage, and Reading, this location is ideal for a wide range of homebuyers.

“Our approach combines thoughtful design with modern living priorities, ensuring the development offers something for everyone — from first-time buyers to growing families and downsizers alike.”

The new homes have all been designed with energy-efficiency in mind and will feature air source heat pumps and electric car charging. A show home will be available in Spring 2026.

Didcot, which is known for its railway heritage and power stations, is also the gateway town to the Science Vale, a renowned science, research and innovation-led hub in the surrounding villages of Milton, Culham and Harwell.
