There were champagne corks popping at one new home in Ibstock when moving-in day also included an exciting and successful proposal of marriage in Loughborough.

Couple get engaged on moving-in day

Nurse Harriet Gurney, who works at Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Loughborough, couldn’t believe it when her partner, fire protection surveyor Joseph Rennocks, got down on one knee just minutes after they walked through the door to their first home together. The couple moved into a three-bedroomed home at Springfields, where house builder, Kier Living, has created an exceptional collection of new homes, which complement the village and natural surroundings.

Harriet said Joseph’s proposal had been planned well in advance, with the help of Kier Living’s Sales Team. “As soon as we got the keys to the house I was keen to look around, but Joseph wanted me to look in the welcome hamper box that had been left for us by Kier Living, along with a lovely bouquet of flowers,” she said.

“In the welcome box Joseph had put a wedding planner along with photos from the last few years. He had written a love letter – and after reading it I turned around and there he was on one knee with the ring. My mum saw the proposal and walked outside – she was crying so much one of the builders still working on the site asked her if she was ok!”

Joseph, who grew up in Ibstock, met Harriet from Derby when they were teenagers at Ashby School together. After five years the couple decided it was time to get a dog – Bailey the miniature labradoodle – and move in together.

“We wanted to live in a new-build and we saw a lot of houses at different developments that just didn’t fit the bill,” said Joseph. “They didn’t seem special, but then we looked at the show home here at Springfields and fell in love with it straight away – and so we went for the same design of house and we were thrilled to finally get the keys. I’ve lived in Ibstock all my life and it is very close community, where you don’t hear of anything bad happening. Springfields is such a nice place to live, especially as all the neighbours say hello and everyone is friendly.”

Harriet added: “We like the lay-out of our new home, how open and light it is, and I love the kitchen. Before you move in you are given so much choice – you can really make it your own.”

All of the homes at Springfields have well-appointed living areas, generous kitchens with appliances and fitted wardrobes.
